The Power 50 2015: Nominations and The Personality of the Year
In February 2014, we asked for the very first time 'Just who are the most significant people in European digital financial services today?’
And in 2015, we asked the same question of our members and a brand new panel of judges. Once the call for nominations had been issued in March of this year, the names poured in from subscribers to Retail Banker International and the members of The Digital Banking Club. The judges had quite a task ahead of them!
Our judging panel this year are:

- Douglas Blakey, Editor of Retail Banker International, Cards International and Electronic Payments International, Timetric
Since receiving the longlist of nominations they have spent several hours deliberating.
In 2015 our judges were not only tasked with selecting the final Power 50, but also our 5 Rising Stars, the 5 people under 35 who are shaping the digital financial landscape, the 5 Power Women, the women who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry and finally, the Personality of the Year, the person who’s outstanding achievements in innovation and excellence warrant individual recognition.
The longlist comprised of over 200 names that spanned the best and brightest names from across the length and breadth of the digital financial services world: combining established banks such as Santander, HSBC and La Caixia, challenger banks, Atom and Starling alongside consultancies such as such as Accenture and EY. There are also financial services bodies such as The Fairbanking Foundation and companies such as iZettle and Nutmeg, who provide a whole new take on the financial services industry.
The organisations included are global and the range of job titles very diverse, the task of picking the Power 50 was not going to be an easy one.
On Thursday, 18th June, 2015, at The Digital Banking Club’s Live Debate, Douglas Blakey, Head of Consumer Finance Titles at Timetric and Chairman of The Digital Banking Club was proud to name Michal Panowicz, SVP & Deputy Head of Digital Banking at Nordea, as the Personality of the Year.
Michal is being recognised for developing an industry-leading suite of design-led innovative digital banking products. Sincerest congratulations must go to Michal for this achievement.
As for the rest of the results? All will be revealed in the September edition of Retail Banker International, which will contain the photos and the biographies of the Power 50, Rising Stars and Power Women.
How else will The Digital Banking Club keep everyone updated once the Power 50 has been announced? There will also be a digital version available on The Digital Banking Club Portal!
As the search for the 2015 Power 50 drawers to a close, I find myself intrigued to see the names of those who have made the final list. To see who is currently shaping the digital, financial services landscape as we know it and who will shape it in years to come. The wait is almost over…
