Amazon has rolled out a new secure card reader and mobile app that helps businesses keep track of payments from smartphones or tablets.

Amazon has rolled out a new secure card reader and mobile app that enables local businesses to quickly and easily accept credit and debit cards payment from a smartphone or tablet to help keep track of their business.

Known as Amazon Local Register, the new card reader will offer businesses low rates, trusted and secure payment processing, and access to customer support, all backed by the same services that securely powers shopping at Amazon.

According to the e-retailer, customers who sign up for Amazon Local Register before 31 October will also receive a low promotional rate of 1.75% card swipe on all major credit and debit cards until 1 January 2016.

Amazon Local Commerce vice president Matt Swann said: “From clothing stores to contractors, food trucks to accountants, businesses and organizations using Amazon Local Register will enjoy industry-leading low rates, trusted and secure payment processing, and access to award-winning customer support.”

To use the card reader, customers will have to create an account on localregister.amazon.com, purchase a $10 card reader, and download the free mobile app from Amazon Appstore, Apple App Store or Google Play.

The card reader, which is currently available at Amazon.com, can be purchased at Staples retail locations across the US.
