Coutts, the private banking arm of Royal Bank of England (RBS), and Barclays are set to launch video banking services that will let clients see and talk with advisers over their mobile devices.
Barclays said that the service will be available from the 8th December for Premier customers.
The bank is planning to roll out the service to mortgage, business and wealth customers from early 2015 and to all its retail customers in a round-the-clock, 24/7 service by the end of next year.
Coutts too is planning launch a pilot ‘video conference’ service soon and if successful, it would roll out the service to all its 72,000 customers, The Financial Times has reported.
Steven Cooper, CEO of personal banking at Barclays, said: “While many of our customers are increasingly using digital channels to complete routine transactions, for the important moments, you just can’t beat face to face conversations, yet traditional branch opening hours don’t always give customers that choice.
“In addition to the availability of our staff in our branches, over the phone or online, we are combining our dedicated staff with digital technology to bring this facility to customers wherever they are and at a time they choose – putting them in control of when and where they want to do their banking,” Cooper added.
