BMW & MasterCard launch contactless credit card
Bayerische Motoren Werke has launched a contactless MasterCard credit card at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show.
Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) in partnership with MasterCard has launched a contactless MasterCard credit card at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to enable users to hire, unlock and operate a BMW or MINI vehicle from the DriveNow fleet.
The new generation of BMW Group MasterCard credit cards will be fitted with a chip that supports NFC (Near Field Communication) which will ease the way of accessing any vehicle in DriveNow, the car-sharing service provided by BMW and Sixt to meet short-notice, short-term mobility needs in the city.
Apart from serving as a mode of payment, the new credit card will also act as the remote key identified by the car system when brought near the windscreen allowing the user to unlock the car.
The service will not require any additional identification during usage since the user’s identity was already checked when the credit card was issued.
