Visa to launch its digital wallet service V.me in UK this year
Visa Europe is set to launch its digital wallet service, V.me by Visa, in the UK by the end of the year.
Visa has secured commitment from 55% of the UK’s card issuance base, which accounts for more than 60 million card holders, and thousands of the UK’s retailers.
Retailers such as Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Wallis, Miss Selfridge and Evans; Iceland and Costco have committed to the service.
The service, which was first launched in partnership with Nationwide in 2013, will remove the need to share card details of the users with retailers.
With the V.me service, users can enter all their personal details and card information just once, then use a single username and password to make purchases at thousands of online retailers.
Users who add debit and credit card to the application can shop online from mobile devices with a few clicks.
Wendy Martin, executive director of V.me, said the launch of the wallet responds to the huge growth of online payments, which are expanding three times faster than face-to-face payments.
“The key online shopping trends are that people are looking to spend on mobile and tablets and that more are doing it on the go,” Martin added.
