Boku snaps up Mobileview Italia
Boku, a US-based mobile payments startup, has acquired Mobileview Italia, a provider of mobile payment solutions in Italy.
The venture is set to widen Boku’s footprint in Europe.
Mobileview Italia was sold by its German parent company dtms to Boku for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition will provide Boku access to major mobile carriers in Italy including Telecom Italia Mobile, Vodafone, Wind, and 3 (Hutchinson), covering over 87 million mobile subscriptions.
Commenting on the deal, Boku CEO Jon Prideaux said: “We see this as a growth initiative for carrier billing in Italy not only for Boku but for our merchant network. Opening a new market to massive global brands like Facebook, Spotify, and Sony, alongside hundreds of other merchant partners is good for consumers and carriers alike.”
Boku, which now operates in 67 countries, recently raised $70m from Andreessen Horowitz, Benchmark Capital, DAG Ventures, Index Ventures, Khosla Ventures and NEA.
