Discover to enable Samsung Pay for US cardmembers

Discover has unveiled plans to enable its US card members to use Samsung Pay.

Discover to enable Samsung Pay for US cardmembers

The deal will allow customers to make payments through Samsung mobile phones at various merchant locations.

For making a purchase at the point-of-sale via Samsung Pay, Discover card members will need to swipe up on eligible Samsung devices, scan their fingerprint and pay.

Cardholders can continue to earn rewards and have protection against unauthorised purchases on their Discover card account.

Samsung Pay integrates Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology and Near Field Communication (NFC), which makes it compatible with almost all existing payment terminals.

The service makes use of tokenisation for each transaction, with consent for payment requiring card holder’s authorisation with a fingerprint or a PIN. Discover cardmembers will obtain access to Samsung Pay in 2016.

Discover president of payment services Diane Offereins commented: “Discover remains committed to providing cardmembers with simple, convenient and versatile payment options.

“Adding Samsung Pay expands our ability to offer innovative and secure mobile payment services, enhancing the customer experience that cardmembers have come to expect from Discover.”
