ACEA adopts new data protection principles for connected vehicles
The members of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has committed to a number of data protection principals.
These principals are for for data protection in relation to connected vehicles.
These principles are:
– To be transparent
– To give customers choice
– To always take data protection into account
– To maintain data security
– To process personal data in a proportional manner
The ACEA said these principles would supplement existing laws and regulations governing personal data protection and privacy in the EU, both at national and EU levels.
Security fears surrounding data breaches from connected cars have become increasingly pronounced as connected features have become more prevalent in cars. A recent Motor Finance feature on the topic found that cyber security in the field remained in its infancy.
