The new app, which is available from the Google Play store, can also be used to make withdrawals from contactless-enabled ANZ ATMs.

Mobile Pay will support ANZ Visa and American Express credit cards, as well as ANZ Visa Debit cards.

The app also supports three types of payments: Wake to Pay, which does not require the phone to be unlocked; Launch to Pay, in which the Mobile Pay app must be launched; and Passcode to Pay, which requires the app to be launched and a passcode to be entered.

ANZ managing director products and marketing Matt Boss said: “Customers using ANZ Mobile Pay will be able to add their existing credit or debit card, and then simply tap their mobile phone for purchases at contactless retail locations anywhere in the world with the security we provide for all online and digital transactions.”

“Given Australians are already the most prolific users of contactless payments in the world and the fact that Android is a major player in the local smartphone market, we believe ANZ Mobile Pay will be a popular addition for many of our customers.”
