Barclays Kenya launches new mobile card payment solution
Barclays Bank Kenya has launched a mobile card payment solution which will enable users to pay for low-value transactions.
The Barclays mobile point of sale (MPOS) is a small phone-like GPRS device that accepts all VISA, MasterCard and AMEX cards as a payment option on the go.
The solution has been designed particularly for making card payments for home deliveries, transportation, entertainment spots among others.
All transactions made through MPOS terminal will follow the same transactional and payment flows as that of the traditional POS system.
The bank has teamed up with Pewin taxi cab to launch the solution to customers on a pilot project.
Additionally, Barclays is seeking partnerships with other firms for the solution.
Barclays Bank Kenya managing director Jeremy Awori said: “Barclays Bank of Kenya is proud to be the first bank in Africa to be launching the Barclays Mobile Point of Sale (MPOS), which is our response to the growing demand for mobile based payment solutions.
“MPOS will enable businesses that previously operated on a cash only basis to increase their sales and expand their customer base by enhancing their payment solutions.”
