NXP, RioCard unveil contactless payment wearable in Rio de Janeiro
NXP in collaboration with RioCard, a Brazil’s smart card system for transportation, has rolled out a contactless wearable in Rio de Janeiro.
The new contactless waterproof bracelet comes as a new card form-factor to RioCard’s NXP MIFARE contactless fare collection and payment solutions.
RioCard wearable is expected to simplify payments and offer greater efficiencies to the integrated transportation system. It will be provided to over 10 million local and international travellers in Rio.
With a mature EMVCo certified platform, NXP’s wearable solutions deliver true convergence across different payment modes, with approved open payment applications, such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. It also gives full access to NXP’s MIFARE contactless ICs.
RioCard executive director Cassiano Rusycky said: “The new RioCard wearable, powered by NXP, shows our commitment to creating a better, faster and more secure travel experience to all of Rio de Janeiro’s population and visitors.
“Continuous success stories based on NXP contactless technology were the motivation behind this implementation, which creates a technological heritage focused on simplifying access to public transportation and bringing more satisfaction to the general population.”
