Samsung launches beta version of Samsung Pay in Sweden
South Korean electronics giant Samsung has rolled out beta version of its mobile payment solution, Samsung Pay, in Sweden.
With the company’s latest move, Sweden becomes the first Nordic country to support Samsung Pay.
Initially, debit and credit card providers including MasterCard, MasterCard SAS, Visa, Eurocard, and banks Nordea and SEB have extended their support for Samsung Pay.
Entercard, Handelsbanken, ICA Banken, Rikskuponger, and Swedbank will support the Samsung contactless mobile payment service in the near future.
Nordea Bank has announced that its customers can use Samsung Pay to make in-store payments with their mobile phones.
The service can be availed by all Nordea customers in Sweden who own an active credit or debit card and a compatible Samsung phone.
Nordea Wallet app automatically registers customers’ debit or credit card (Visa and MasterCard) in the Samsung Pay app. After that, they can use the Samsung Pay app to pay with their phone in most stores around Sweden.
Currently Samsung Pay is compatible with Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in Sweden. Samsung Pay beta will also work on the Galaxy A5 (2017).
Nordea Bank head of personal banking Topi Manner said: “Sweden is the first Nordic country where Samsung Pay is made available and Sweden is also a leading country when it comes to using mobile payment services.
“The smartphone penetration is very high and many of our customers are using a Samsung mobile device.”
Samsung Pay is available in 11 markets including South Korea, the US, China, Spain, Singapore, Australia, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Russia, Thailand and Malaysia.
