Tech giant Google has introduced its mobile payment solution, Android Pay, in Canada with the support of payment platforms, processors, technology providers and financial institutions.
Android Pay in Canada will be supported by Moneris, Bambora, Chase, Cybersource, First Data, Global Payments, Paysafe, WorldPay and Stripe.
Furthermore, the Android Pay support will be extended to Visa and MasterCard credit cards issued by BMO Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Banque Nationale, Scotiabank, Desjardins, President’s Choice Financial, ATB Financial, and Canadian Tire Financial Services in Canada, and prepaid Scotiabank and Desjardins.
And the support for American Express cards and Tangerine will be rolled out later this summer.
Google in a blog post said: “We’ll be rolling out support for top banks over the next several days, and this is just the beginning. We will continue to add even more features, banks and store locations in the coming months, making it even easier to pay with your Android phone.”
In addition, Android Pay consumers can use the payment solution at Tim Hortons, Loblaws, Petro-Canada, McDonald’s, Indigo, Pizza Pizza, Sears Canada and in TELUS, Rogers, and Freedom Mobile retail stores as well as on apps, including Lululemon, Uber, Ritual and HotelTonight.
Users just need to hold their smartphone with Android Pay near the payment terminal to make payment.
Google recently launched Android Pay in Russia. The payment solution is also available in the US, the UK, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Poland, New Zealand, Ireland and Japan.
