Samsung Pay adds PayPal as payment option in US
Samsung has entered into a strategic partnership to add PayPal as a payment method within Samsung Pay.
Initially, the partnership will be available to Samsung Pay users in the US, but it will gradually be expanded to other countries.
To use the service, users will have to add their PayPal account to Samsung Pay, and can then use their PayPal wallet and balance anywhere Samsung Pay is accepted.
In return, PayPal users can use their PayPal wallet for offline payment transactions at millions of merchants where Samsung Pay is accepted.
Additionally, through Braintree – a PayPal service – merchants will be able to accept Samsung Pay as a method of payment in-app and online.
The PayPal integration with Samsung Pay is supported on Samsung smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+.
Samsung’s move comes after Apple added PayPal support to the App Store, iTunes, and Apple Music in Canada and Mexico. Three months back Google’s Android Pay service also added support for PayPal.
Unlike Apple Pay supports only NFC point-of-sale systems, Samsung Pay works with both NFC terminals as well as those using traditional Magnetic Secure Transmission technology.
