UnionPay expands acceptance of mobile payment app
UnionPay International is boosting the acceptance of its mobile payment solution to better serve its cardholders in 25 countries and regions
In these locations, the UnionPay app users will now be able to pay using the company’s QR code or activate contactless payment capability on their NFC-enabled smartphones.
In addition, customers can also activate UnionPay mobile QuickPass through the app in order to ‘tap and pay’ at more than one million point-of-sale (POS) terminals in 19 international markerts.
The app also provides card-using tips, information on merchant offers, real-time exchange rates and tax refund details.
This announcement comes close on the heels of UnionPay’s strategic cooperation agreement with Panama-based electronic payment network Telered to enable acceptance of its cards at all local ATMs.
Under the terms of the partnership, Telered’s 30,000 POS terminals will also be upgraded to accept UnionPay cards. The partners also intend to participate in card issuance deals with member banks of Telered.
Currently, the UnionPay acceptance network covers 168 countries and regions, with more than 23 million merchants and 1.64 million ATMs outside mainland China.
