RBC to introduce contactless payment across Caribbean
RBC) has revealed plans to introduce contactless payments across the Caribbean by enabling ‘Tap-and-pay’ capability.
RBC is said to be the first bank to offer this technology for merchants across the region.
The move will enable customers with contactless-enabled payment cards, irrespective of the issuer, to pay at the bank’s POS devices enabled with near field communication (NFC).
RBC head of Caribbean banking Rob Johnston said: “We are proud to be taking these next steps with contactless acceptance in our markets.
“This enhancement further demonstrates our commitment to better serve our clients by providing innovative and secure payment solutions.”
RBC said that the secure contactless payment technology will deliver significant benefits to merchants and their customers via increased convenience and speed of small transactions.
Johnston added: “Our investment in contactless payment technology is another step forward to achieve our strategic priorities and bring the bank of the future to our clients.
“RBC is serious about innovation and this investment is just one of the ways we are enhancing our digital capabilities across the Caribbean.”
