German mobile payments services provider Payleven has now made its chip and PIN card reader available in Spain.

Payleven provides its customers with a mobile Bluetooth card reader which operates via an app on their smartphone or tablet.

The card reader works with 3G, Wlan or GPRS.

The transmission process itself is similar to the used by a traditional POS-terminal. Receipts for consumers can be sent via email or be directly printed via an optional Bluetooth printer.

In September, Payleven made its chip and PIN card reader available via Media Market, a German online shop and partnered with the Italian Poste Italiane.

Payleven began selling a mobile card reader at European Apple retail stores in May. The Chip & PIN device retails at $151 with a 2.75% fee to merchants for transactions.

The Payleven chip and PIN card reader works with iOS or Android.
