American Express will integrate its contactless payment platform Serve with Isis, a mobile wallet provided by three major US networks.

AmEx hopes the co-branded wallet will be available to millions of Americans by the end of the year.

Currently Isis allows AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon customers to make mobile payments in shops that offer mobile payments. Isis said that 25 of the biggest 100 US retailers use its mobile wallet service or are in the process of installing contactless terminals.

The Isis Mobile Wallet uses NFC technology for consumers to pay, redeem coupons and present loyalty cards with their mobile phones.

The venture will allow Isis users to pay bills online and send money to others using their American Express Serve account.

"Linking the platforms will allow millions of people to conveniently and inexpensively manage and move their money," said Dan Schulman, an enterprise chief at American Express.

"From the palm of your hand, consumers including those without access to traditional bank accounts or credit can have access to everyday financial services. And our combined solution works in today’s retail environment, and in the emerging ‘tap to pay’ point of sale ecosystem," Schulman said.

Isis CEO Michael Abbot said the relationship with AmEx would offer customers more choice in e-payments. "Customers love the convenience of tap and pay with the ability to manage their payments and loyalty programs from one app," he said.

"By adding American Express Serve to the Isis Wallet, we can immediately provide millions of consumers the opportunity to participate in mobile commerce as we continue to enrich the consumer experience," Abbot added.
